WHAT'S NEW FOR THE SOUTH ASIAN WOMAN
August 26, 2009
Bead Me Pretty

Ethnic inspired jewelry is hot and South Asian inspired jewelry can be found everywhere.  Purchasing designer wear, however, can be expensive and will likely limit your collection to a few pieces for special occasions.   Also, with designer jewelry, you may find every woman in New York wearing it.  CitySaheli has found a creative way for you to build your own personalized jewelry collection and develop a new hobby, all without breaking the bank.

Embrace the inner artist in you by taking a jewelry class at Beads of Paradise, where you can develop professional jewelry making skills and learn more about findings from around the world.  Use the jewelry skills you acquire to design your own pieces and to create unique gifts for family and friends.

Beads of Paradise is a charming boutique in the Flatiron district.  The beads found at the store each come with descriptions detailing the meaning behind them and their traditional uses.  For instance, you will find a bead used by the natives of Nigeria to ward off evil (comparable to the “evil eye”).  In addition to an abundance of unique beads and semi-precious stones, the shop sells goods from South East Asia, India, Indonesia, China, the Middle East and Mexico.  For example, if you’re looking for Hindu religious artifacts or a Buddha for your home, it’s a great place to visit.  You’ll also find malas and prayer beads from various different cultures here.

This store is a great place to explore, but what CitySaheli loves most about this spot is that it lets you be a designer.  If you’re looking to develop your jewelry making skills, the Findings Crash Course offered is a must!
