BKT Tried & Tested

Earlier this month, CitySaheli reviewed the Brazilian Keratin Treatment and discussed the pros and the cons of the treatment.   Recently, CitySaheli tested the process at Laicale Salon with stylist Faisal Dwiaryanto.  Here’s the scoop on how it went and general feedback on the effects of the treatment.

Why Laicale?  After doing much research, CitySaheli found that Laicale uses Qod, a formula that only has 0.02% formaldehyde.  Laicale is also consistently ranked by Citysearch as one of the best salons in the city.  The salon is located in Soho and exudes style and professionalism.  CitySaheli went in for a consultation and felt comfortable with the stylist and his capabilities.   (Hint: When you go in for a consult, make sure your hair is in its natural form so the stylist can tell you how straight your hair will look after the process.)

How was the process? Everything went smoothly and quickly, and the salon staff was excellent.  Although CitySaheli had dropped by for a consultation and had asked detailed questions about the process, Faisal ensured we understood the steps prior to performing the treatment.  The product itself smelled good and proper ventilation was used to ensure the fullest safety.  The treatment on thick long hair took approximately two hours.  Here is a quick synopsis of exactly what happened.

  • Stylists uses Laicale’s clarifying shampoo to make sure the hair is clear of any chemicals
  • Hair is lightly blow-dried before QOD glo is applied
  • Keratin treatment is applied throughout the hair (it smells like a banana smoothie!)
  • Hair is again blow-dried to dry treatment into hair
  • Hair is then flat ironed (450 degrees) to seal in treatment

After the treatment is complete, your hair will look pin straight (Japanese process pin straight.)  This is what it looks like post process:

After 2-3 days of keeping your hair dry and down (no hair ties), you wash your hair and blow dry as usual.  This is what it looked like after one wash and 5 minutes of blow drying:

What were the results like? CitySaheli was very happy with the results.  Hairstyling after BKT takes a fraction of the time it did before the BKT.  Prior to the treatment, styling hair would take approximately 45 minutes to an hour.  To achieve the same results, it now takes only 10 minutes.  In addition, professional blow-drys are no longer needed.  There are no fly-aways and the hair doesn’t frizz.  There is still body and bounce to the hair and waves and curls can still be achieved.

We’ll see how long the process lasts but overall we’re thrilled and have already scheduled our next appointment at Laicale!  BKT is a great solution for women who don’t have a lot of time on their hands.  Worth every penny.
