Celebrate Sakhi’s 20th anniversary on Friday, October 2, 2009, at the Prince George Ballroom. Mira Nair will serve as the event’s key note speaker. The evening will also include a powerful presentation about Sakhi, a guest appearance by Reshma Shetty of Royal Pains, a live auction with a Sotheby’s auctioneer and music spun by DJ Rekha.
What is Sakhi? Sakhi for South Asian Women is a community based organization in the New York metropolitan area committed to end violence against women. The group uses an integrated approach that combines support and empowerment through service delivery, community engagement, media advocacy and policy initiatives.
Sakhi provides various services to South Asian women including legal information and referrals, shelter resources, translation assistance and accompaniments to courts, hospitals and other public service offices. A critical component of Sakhi’s service is a monthly support group exclusive to women. This year alone Sakhi has reached out to 403 women (January 1 to June 30, 2009).
Support Sakhi and its outstanding achievement of aiding and supporting South Asian women. For more information please visit http://www.sakhi.org
