CitySaheli met with Preeti Shah, an entrepreneur in the South Asian wedding community. Preeti spent seven years in the wedding business and has accomplished a lot during that time. She started her own wedding planning company called Spotlight, designed weddings all over the world, and was featured several times in NY Magazine for her wedding planning expertise. Preeti is not stopping here though. Her next big project involves a unique bridal show called ShaadiChic, a wedding soiree designed specifically for the stylish, sophisticated and indulgent South Asian bride.
Preeti told CitySaheli that she “noticed a gap between what brides were looking for and a platform where vendors could present all they have to offer.” She wanted to create a place where brides can truly “indulge in their wedding.” This is how the idea for ShaadiChic started.
Preeti also noticed a shift in the South Asian wedding industry. “Traditionally, parents made the decisions, but today the bride has more influence.” And today’s brides “don’t want something run of the mill.” The idea behind ShaadiChic is that the bride “has the opportunity to meet and interact with the vendors and express her likes and dislikes.” At ShaadiChic, “we select the best vendors,” Preeti explains. Given the abundance of vendors to choose from, Preeti wants to give her brides a sense of assurance that the vendors at this event have been hand selected.
Planning this show in addition to her wedding planning business has been difficult to juggle, but Preeti is enthusiastic to provide South Asian brides with options and information that they can really use. Her passion for the industry is transparent and her commitment to making this an excellent show excites us for this year’s soiree.
ShaadiChic 2009
The ShaadiChic Bridal Soiree will be held this year on October 25th. The event will offer innovative design concepts fusing the traditional with the 21st Century. “Brides are looking for a way to keep the tradition but break the norm…and that is what we are setting out to do!” says Preeti. The Mandap, a canopy sheltering the bridal couple, will be shown with a new twist; waterfalls cascading down creating an effect never seen before.
Bringing together American and South Asian wedding specialists including top of the line event planners, dress designers, makeup artists, DJs, photographers, and caterers, this show will demonstrate the signature elements of a lavish South Asian wedding, while providing an unforgettable experience for visitors.
Preeti encourages brides and grooms to attend ShaadiChic together. “It is for couples looking to plan their wedding together,” she explains. “There will be a groom’s lounge so the guys can kick back and relax while the girls are getting pampered at the bridal beauty bar.”
