Top iPhone Apps Every Saheli Needs

Every day the number of available iPhone (or iPod Touch) applications grows significantly, making it tough to sift through the apps to find out which are right for you.  That’s why CitySaheli has reviewed a myriad of applications and picked out a few which we think every Saheli needs.  In our review, we focus our recommendations on the best free or low-cost apps that you may not have heard about and avoided popular apps such as Pandora and Shazam, since you probably already have these apps on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Here’s our list of the top apps every Saheli should have!

1.  A Bartending App

As Sahelis we like to throw (and attend) many parties.  What better way to ensure that your party’s drink list caters to everyone than to have thousands of drink recipes in the palm of your hand.  That’s why CitySaheli recommends Party Pro Lite as our favorite bartending app for your iPhone or iPod Touch.  Of course, it is just one out of a number of available applications that provide you with drink recipes, but we find this one to be the most user friendly and its free!  To download Party Pro Lite click on the iTunes button below.

You can also check out weDrink, a very useful and affordable (only $0.99) app that creates fun and exciting drink recipes with the ingredients you already have in your apartment.  weDrink even has loads of available drinking games to help you get your drink on!  Finally, after all the fun you will have making Tequila Bang Bangs and playing drinking games, weDrink will help you get home safe with a list of local cab numbers since it can identify your current location.  To downloard weDrink click the iTunes button below.

2.  A Barcode Reader App

Have you ever seen a dress at a store that you saw online, but can’t remember where it was cheaper?  Well, there’s an app to help you with that. Use RedLaser to scan UPC codes for price comparisons on the go.  This app lets you search the online prices of products you find at retail stores.  Once RedLaser finds the product you are scanning, you can even send it to yourself or a friend.  The product works on most products, including groceries, books and DVDs.  The RedLaser app is a great low-cost app (only $1.99) that will make sure you never overpay for anything ever again.  To start shopping smarter click the iTunes button below.

3.  A Calorie Counter App

If you’re out often and don’t have time to cook, counting calories can be a nightmare.  A calorie counter can help you ensure that you keep your figure.  We recommend the MyNetDiary application for serious calorie monitoring.  This free app works in conjunction with the MyNetDiary.com web site, which has over 88,000 foods in its database, provides diet analysis and planning tools, advanced charts, and reports that you can easily export into Excel.  If you have a daily caloric requirement that you want to meet, or you are looking for a sure way to lose weight and help yourself feel great, you need this app. To start looking and feeling better, click the iTunes button below.

If you want an app with a larger database, try the LiveStrong Daily Plate Calorie Tracker.  This application costs $2.99 and works on the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and all generations of the iPod touch.  The application does not require that you have an account at LiveStrong.com to search for the nutritional information of 500,000+ foods in its database.  However, if you do have an account with LiveStrong.com or The Daily Plate, your tracking information will be synced from your device back to the website. You’ll also need an account if you want to calculate your daily calorie target for your weight-loss goal.  To download this app click the iTunes button below.

4. A Personal Stylist App

CitySaheli loves the My Style Fashion Assistant app!  This app allows you to create outfits, using your existing wardrobe, in the palm of your hand.  Simply take pictures of your clothing, shoes, and accessories and import them into your iPhone or iTouch.  Mix and match your outfits on the go and never worry about wearing the same thing twice!  The app uses the three panel slider to create each outfit which consists of a shirt, pants and shoes.  Then you are able to add up to six accessories!  Best of all, you can shop smarter by making sure every new purchase fits right into your existing wardrobe.  When you’re out shopping, snap a picture of the outfit you are thinking about buying and see if it fits with what you have.  My Style Fashion Assistant app costs $4.99, but is well worth it and fun!  Click the button below to get it!

5.  A Long Distance Calling App

Calling long distance to friends, relatives, or tailors in India shouldn’t be hindered by cost.  That’s why the Skype VOIP for the iPhone is a must have.  Use Skype to make inexpensive per-minute fee calls to landlines to friends and relatives.  You can also instant message and send SMS anywhere in the world, at great rates.  Click the button below to start calling.

6.  A Reminder App

We’re guessing you carry your iPhone or iPod Touch on you at all times and you never miss a text message or email.  That’s why this app is great for keeping you on top of things.  TextMinder is a simple-to-use app that allows you to create a text reminder and schedule it to be sent via SMS text to your wireless phone.  The reasons why we picked this app over many other reminder apps is that it allows you to schedule texts up to a year in advance, allows you to schedule reminders on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis, and its customer service is quick and responsive.  Download the app by clicking the iTunes button and you will never forget to pick up dirty laundry, do homework, attend a meeting, or miss a CitySaheli event ever again!
