Top Questions to Ask Your Mehndi Artist
Top Questions to Ask Your Mehndi Artist

CitySaheli gave you an article on mehndi and what it’s all about.  If you’ve decide that you want to keep to this long-standing tradition at your wedding, the next step is to book your bridal mehndi artist. To find the right team for you and your guests, CitySaheli has put together a list of top questions for you to ask when interviewing mehndi artists.

1. Ask what the artist uses for the mehndi mixture.  New mehndi mixtures have a dye in it to ensure you will have darker mehndi.  CitySaheli has seen some brides have very light mehndi which often looks less attractive on the wedding day.

2.  If you have a style or design in mind, show a picture to your artist and ask if they can replicate it.  Many times artists replicate the same design (dulha, dulhan, raja rani) and you may want something different.  Ensure that what you have in mind can be done.

3.  Make sure you see how thin or thick the artist’s mehndi is and that you are satisfied with his or her look.

4.  Look at the artist’s portfolio carefully and ask to see examples outside of bridal mehndi.  Chances are your mom as well as other family members may use the same artist for less elaborate mehndi.

5.  Ask how long your mehndi will take. If you are having a mehndi party, you may want to start prior to the party so you won’t be getting tattoed the entire time you are sitting with your guests.

6. Ask the artist if she has any new mehndi books.  Mehndi books are easy to find in South Asia and artists are constantly creating new designs.  These books can help you choose the design you want as well as the designs you want to offer your guests.

7.  If you are hiring artists for a mehndi party.  Ask what they charge per hand, foot, arm, etc.  This can vary.  Some artists provide and hourly rate, which can be a more cost effective option.

And now the moment you all have been waiting for, a list of Mehndi artists! We’ve included samples for some of the vendors listed.  Enjoy!
