CitySaheli wants to inform our Sahelis of the many ways they can help Pakistan during its desperate time of need. The devastating floods in Pakistan have now affected more than 4 million people and sadly left at least 1600 dead. Hundreds of thousands have lost their homes, water is scarce and food is contaminated. This is the worst flooding the country has experienced in nearly a century.
Numerous organizations around the globe are accepting donations and offering relief to the victims in Pakistan. UNICEF and Save the Children, for example, are focusing on the needs of the children in Pakistan, particularly providing them with clean water, nutrition and sanitation. CARE and Doctors Without Borders are supporting heath teams, mobile clinics, hygiene kits and the distribution of emergency supplies. Religious organizations, such as Islamic Relief USA, are another means toward helping those suffering. Hillary Clinton announced that Americans could text the word “SWAT” to 50555 to donate $10 per SMS to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to provide clothing, food, clean water and medicine.
If you are a medical professional, consider volunteering through organizations such as International Medical Corps, a group that is seeking doctors, nurses and trained professionals to aid in their efforts in Pakistan.
If a fundraiser is more your style, Islamic Relief USA is hosting a fundraising event for the Pakistan flood victims at Chutney Manor in South Brunswick, NJ on Saturday, August 15th at 7:15pm. The event will feature Sheikh Hasan Saleh, world renowned Qari.
If you want to help, check out these many organizations where you can show your support.
